Your Rights

Invisible Image

Me as a Consumer

When you buy something, you will have exactly the same rights as an adult. If your rights are ignored, you can report it to the Office of Fair Trading.

Trade Descriptions Act

The Trade Descriptions Act 1968 makes it an offence for a trader to apply false or misleading statements, or to knowingly or recklessly make such statements about the services or product they are offering.

Who can help

If you feel like you have been treated unfairly by a shop or a manufacturer visit The Department of Trade and Industry or The Citizen's Advice Bureau. These sites will give you the facts and tell you what your rights are.
